Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Have questions about using Smart KR financial calculators? Check below.
Is the information I enter saved? ▼
No, it is never saved. All Smart KR calculators run entirely within your device's browser (client-side) without communicating with our servers. You can use them with peace of mind knowing your personal data is never transmitted externally.
Are the calculation results accurate? ▼
Yes, they are accurate. We reflect the latest 2026 tax laws and insurance rates in real-time. Calculations for National Pension, Health Insurance, Employment Insurance, and Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance are all based on the newest standards.
How is the 4-Major Insurance calculated? ▼
The 4 major insurance premiums are calculated by applying the respective rates to your monthly salary. The employee's share consists of National Pension (4.5%), Health Insurance (3.545%), Long-Term Care Insurance (12.95% of Health Insurance), and Employment Insurance (0.9%), while the employer pays a separate share.
How is net pay calculated? ▼
Net pay (take-home pay) is calculated by deducting the 4-major insurance premiums, national income tax, and local income tax from your gross salary. Since taxes vary depending on the number of dependents and non-taxable allowances, entering exact details will yield more accurate results.
Why is the Jeonse safety check necessary? ▼
It allows you to assess the risk of a 'kkangtong' (empty) jeonse (where the deposit exceeds the house value) before signing a contract and check your eligibility for HUG/SGI Jeonse Deposit Return Guarantee insurance. Protect yourself from scams by comprehensively analyzing the jeonse-to-market-price ratio, mortgage loans, and more.
Do foreigners have to enroll in the 4-major insurances? ▼
Yes, in principle, foreigners working at domestic workplaces are subject to mandatory enrollment just like Korean nationals. However, exemptions may apply depending on your visa type (e.g., D-2, E-9) or social security agreements with your home country. Upon leaving Korea, you can apply for a National Pension lump-sum refund.
